New Music: Basket Mouth (Oddz) - Where I'm From

Basket Mouth and Steelz together known as Oddz have come out with the second single off their upcoming album. This new single is titled Where I'm from and has Eldee the don on the hook. Their first single Where u de featured Eldee on a verse and Wizkid on the

New Music: Goldie - Say My Name


Colourful and cerebral, Goldie’s musical strength and depth, sensuality and serenity have appropriated her as the high water mark that other female singers have to live up to. Top Naija Albums Of 2011

Year 2011 has been a wonderful year in the Nigerian music industry. The entertainment scene in Nigeria received a lot of international exposure with lots of ground breaking musical deals signed as evidence of progress. In terms of album sales and acceptance by the fans, while some musicians did excellently well, others performed below
expectation despite the hype and promotion surrounding the album release. After a series of interviews with Album marketers at Alaba and the Nigerian music consumers ( the fans), a lot of facts emerged on the album performance in 2011.However, we've decided not to mention names and leave this discussion open to you our lovely Naija  Whistle blog reader to as a follow up to our previous post on the Top 10 Nigerian songs of 2011. TONTO DIKE ‘s NEW SINGLE


It seems the lucrative returns in the Nigerian music industry have gotten the attention of the people in the movie industry. Most popular Nigerian actors and actresses are venturing into the music industry to add to their
portfolio as entertainers. This time top Nollywood actress Tonto Dike has partnered with Kas for the production of her two new singles titled Iyawo and Do me. I reserve my comments and urge you to download the songs below and give it your own rating. Other top goons in Nigerian films that have had a previous romance with music include Omotola, Genevieve, Nkem Owoh Jim Iyke and Patience Ozokwor.

WORLD PREMIERE: DTONE MARTINS - SUNKUN IFE & IFE GBAGBARA


We premiere DTone Martins new singles: “Sunkun Ife” and “Ife Gbagbara”. Both songs brilliantly delivered with a traditional African folk theme, well-versed lyrics and a seductive melody. He co-produced the two songs with Daniel Iyere, P loop and Fatt Beat. As a result of his outstanding performances, DTone Martins emerged second runner up in the 2008 rhythm unplugged competition and has gone ahead to gain a strong following in his jazz/ contempoary folk genre of music.
Asked about the song he liked so such that he wished he sang, he answers “I wish I wrote Owuro L’ojo by
Beautiful Nubia, and Kiss from the Rose by Seal. DTone Martins hopes to have collaborations with 2Face, Sunny Ade, Femi Kuti, Asa, John Legend, R. Kelly, Shade Adu and Seal.

TIMI DAKOLO’S BEAUTIFUL NOISE…ALBUM REVIEW


Timi Dakolo, winner of the first ever West African Idol finally released his long awaited album titled Beautiful noise.
The album contains 11 songs plus an intro in Timi Dakolo’s native Bayelsa language. Timi proves himself as a prolific song writer with deep and reflective content filled lyrics on every song.
He moves away from the everyday Nigerian song and brings in a blend of American gospel and contemporary love songs rendered with a smooth voice and nice delivery.
“Let it shine”, the second track off the album tells the usual sad story of
growing up with a poor background and having shoes without laces.
Other Beautiful collaborations on the album include my favourite “Heaven Please” with MI who put a nice flow on the beat. The song sees Timi and MI wondering aloud to the heavens and praying for a chance to speak their minds to the girl they love in the hope she’ll listen.
“Is it over is another collaboration with Joan EKpai which is similar to Akon’s “Never took the time”. It’s a soul touching one.
A Nigerian musical album is incomplete without a party song and so Timi teamed up with producer Cobhams Asuquo in “Raise the roof” which saw Cobhams rapping.
“So beautiful” is a collaboration with Elvis Larri which has an African dance rhythm showing Timi singing in Yoruba.
“There’s a cry” is an emotional song and has a nice orchestral beginning plus a nice touch of a real human cry.  The song talks about the many things that do not go right in the society.
I love you remix features Chocolate city’s producer Jesse Jagz who has a similar song he did with Brymo on his own album. Jesse Jagz delivered excellently in both the first and third verses of the song.
On the overall, Timi Dakolo’s Beautiful noise album is rated a 4 star album.
The West African Idols has also produced musicians who are doing well in the Nigerian entertainment and music scene like Omawumi.
