Kenny Ogungbe of Kennis music and long-time partner in Primetime Africa Dayo Adeneye popularly known as Keke and D1 have gone their separate ways over disagreements on the renewal of a multimillion naira MTN deal.
The split was a result of Dayo Adeneye (D. one) rejecting the new terms of contract with telecoms giant MTN Nigeria on behalf of Primetime entertainment. His reasons being the new deal was less juicy than the previous one that got him and Kenny an MTN branded Hummer jeep each.
D1’s move did not go down well with ID Ogungbe (Kenny Ogungbe’s younger brother) who
persuaded Kenny to accept the deal on behalf of Kennis Music since Dayo Adeneye has little stake in the record label. Kenny agreed with ID Ogungbe’s idea and went ahead to sign the deal with MTN without the knowledge of his partner Dayo Adeneye.
D.1 discovered the new development when an MTN staff asked why he had not been showing up for negotiations with the company.
Dayo confronted Kenny who admitted signing the deal with MTN for Kennis music but said it was ID’s idea not his.
This response infuriated Dayo who accused Kenny and ID Ogungbe of using his idea without his knowledge and has decided to call it quits with the Primetime and Kennis music crew, his long term partners.
Kenny and D1 are hardly seen together at events in recent times which was the norm for the duo. Already, D1 has kicked off plans to start his own independent celebrity interview TV program.
Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were seen as the godfathers in Nigerian entertainment and have impacted on the careers of many Nigerian musicians including 2face Idibia, Idris AbdulKareem, Ruggedman and Jaywon.
The duo previously won a Naija Whistle poll as the best veteran Nigerian TV/media person.
