Students of the Lagos State University have once again shut down all major roads leading to the main campus at Ojo protesting over the 1000% increment in their school fees. The school gates have been put under lock by the students who also barricaded the major roads with large trucks and buses. The LASU axis of the Lagos-Badagry expressway has been converted into a makeshift football field by the students. Commercial activities in surrounding areas have come to a standstill and the worst hit areas include
the popular Alaba international market and the Iyana-Iba markets. Human and vehicular traffic is on a standstill as most cars were seen making a U- turn in different directions. When asked for their reactions on the protest, onlookers said despite the hardship imposed on them, the students have a just course in their attempt to dissuade the management from increasing their fees from =N= 25,000 (Twenty five thousand naira) to =N= 250,000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand naira) asking “How many parents can afford to pay such outrageous amount in a public school”. Meanwhile rumour has it that LASU authorities are deliberating on closing the school for a period of time to avoid escalation into violence like the case of University of Calabar.
